Joining Our Council

What Are The Eligibility Requirements?

The Knights are open to all practical Catholic men at least 18 years of age or older. Practical Catholics accept the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspire to live in accordance with the precepts of the Catholic Church, and are in good standing with the Catholic Church.

How Do I Become A Knight?

The first step is to attend an interview, conducted by three council officers and typically held in the Knights building. If the officers determine the applicant is suitable for membership in our Council, he will be invited to attend a First Degree ceremony to officially join the Knights of Columbus. We hold multiple First Degree ceremonies a year, so it is never too late to join the Knights of Columbus.

How Long Does My Membership Last?

Once you join the Council, your membership continues indefinitely, though you may resign if you choose to. At any time, you can transfer your membership to another Council, such as that at your local parish. However, many members choose to remain members of Council #1477, even after leaving Notre Dame, to continue supporting the work of our Council.
